A dignity of dragons, a lunacy of werewolves, a craving of golems, a tizzy of fairies, a vexation of zombies…

Thanks to this i09 post, I discovered David Malki’s fantastic index of “Supernatural Collective Nouns”:

This comic (#566) is available for purchase on Malki’s Wondermark website as a print or a poster.

  1. Here is another great list of novel collective nouns. That site trawls Twitter for #collectivenouns, and indexes them for posterity. You can even vote on your favourites by ‘ReTweeting’ them!

  2. Kind of fun but I’ll stick with James Lipton’s (yes, that James Lipton, The Actors Studio) classic, An Exaltation of Larks .

  3. We’ve been big fans of Lipton’s book for ages — but have found few, if any, specific collective nouns for plants. We decided to remedy that situation with a book of photos and botanical wordplay (consisting, all to frequently, of truly terrible puns — don’t say we didn’t warn you).
It’s called “Terms of Vegery,” and there are sample entries at: http://tinyurl.com/335scsl
